How to remove fake tan
First up, you'll need a good exfoliating scrub. Whether you choose a chemical exfoliator, a physical exfoliator or a mix of both, you want something that's going to break down the tanning product on your skin.

"Work the scrub into dry skin, focusing specifically on the areas of tan you want to remove," Rachel said.
If you're using a physical exfoliator, Rachel added that it's important to use it on dry skin. A common mistake is scrubbing wet skin, which does not cause enough of an abrasive effect to lift the tan. But remember to be gentle, as it's important to make sure you don't scrub so much you hurt your skin.
Shop chemical exfoliators

Prep & Maintain Tan Remover Mousse
"After you've worked the exfoliator well into dry skin, rinse it off in the shower," said Rachel.
If you've got a little more time, Michaella suggests having a bath and soaking in essential oils.
"Apply a tan remover over the areas you wish to remove colour, and wait for about five to 10 minutes. Then, get into a hot bath with essential oils and scrub your skin with a tan remover mitt to buff and lift away the colour."

When it comes to preventing your tan from becoming patchy in the first place, Rachel said it's important to look for hydrating tanning products.
"Use tanning products that are extremely hydrating and free from alcohol to ensure a natural, even fade. They don't dry the skin out and create that 'snake skin' effect'," Rachel said.
